Monthly Meeting/Jam Report

This report is the same as the monthly meeting report that is sent via e-mail to the club members.

   *****UPDATED 1/14/12********

Florida Steel Guitar Club

Report for January 11, 2012 Meeting/Jam at Catfish Johnny’s Restaurant, Lake Panasoffkee, FL.

Next meeting/jam will be Wednesday February 8, 2012 at 5:30 PM

1.  A nice turnout both Steeler’s and Audience.  This is the time of year with all the winter residents and big turnouts.

2.  The volume level issue was addressed by Catfish Johnny at the November Jam.   I would like to thank everyone for their compliance with this request again this month.  I don’t know that everyone agrees with this but it is something we have to abide by.

 3.  The S-8 steel guitar was on display and the raffle tickets were on sale for the guitar.  The raffle will run through the winter until March.  We will have a drawing for the guitar at the club’s March jam.  Winner does not have to be present, but they will have to make arrangements to pick it up.  Raffle tickets are $5.00 each.

 4.  Haywood Henson will have a 1 day steel guitar show this year, Friday Jan 27th at the same location as last year – the International Market Place (flea market) in Auburndale.  Show will start at 3PM and admission is $10.  Scheduled to appear are Herby Wallace, Joe Wright, Fred Thompson, Ollie Strong and Chet Gibson.

 5.  The refund for the non delivered club hats is completed.  I now have the credit reapplied to my credit card that I used to order them originally (it had become due and I had to pay it with club funds).  I will now look for a new company to have the hats made.

 6.  Two club members with the same diagnosis, Esophageal Cancer, are undergoing treatment.  Johnny Bondz had surgery to remove the Cancer in Lakeland this past Tuesday (1/10/12).  Johnny was taken out of ICU on Thursday, 1/12 and put back in ICU Friday, 1/13.   Jim Burden (Bullet Bars) has had Chemo and Radiation for his at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and has an appointment on Feb 1st for surgery scheduling.  Keep both of these in your prayers.

 7.  Another reminder to keep your e-mail address up to date.  E-mail is the only way of notifying or contacting most club members.   If you have an e-mail change, send it to me ASAP.   fsgc@tampabay.rr.com

 8.  A copy of this report, as usual, will be posted on the club web site and you can access it at www.floridasteelguitarclub.com

9.  A special mention for Clyde Wiggins who had a “minor” stroke last month and is back with us for the jam this month. “Clyde plays electric bass”.  Also thank you for the other backup band members, listed below.  As I have often said, we are very fortunate to have a backup band and do not have to rely on tracks as some clubs do.

The player list was documented, as usual, by Don Sulesky.
